Griselinia littoralis Canterbury
A popular hedging and screening shrubs with large, glossy leathery green leaves and reddish-brown stems. Becomes a small, round-headed tree if left untrimmed but can be trimmed in summer to form hedges and shelter. Little pruning should be required other than shaping if being used for hedging. Withstands drought, coastal conditions and strong winds. Will grow in most soil types. It's berries will attract birds.
